  • Should Christians Listen to Secular Music?

Do you agree or disagree with the common philosophy that secular music is improper for a fully devoted Christian lifestyle?

I personally believe this is the wrong question to be asking. If we were to place a group of Christians in a room and ask; “Is it wrong for a fully devoted Christian to listen to secular music?” we’d find that they would be there for a very long time, and not only would they be wasting their time, they wouldn’t get anywhere. When it’s all done and said, there really isn’t a “correct” answer because this is one of those “grey areas” of life and nowhere in the Bible does it tell us that a fully devoted Christian shouldn’t be listening to secular music. However, it does tell us that a believer in Christ should avoid ungodliness and stay pure in everything he/she does.

As I was reading this, this scripture came to me…

      Colossians 2:20-23 (New Living Translation)
You have died with Christ, and He has set you free from the spiritual powers of this world. So why do you keep on following the rules of the world, such as, “Don’t handle! Don’t taste! Don’t touch!”? Such rules are mere human teachings about things that deteriorate as we use them. These rules may seem wise because they require strong devotion, pious self-denial, and severe bodily discipline. But they provide no help in conquering a person’s evil desires.

      Good Joe! Insightful!

Don’t you find it funny how music gets such a bad rap but movies get a free pass. “how many swear words does toy story have? 4. awesome, great movie!” I love all music but i think your main point is spot on. There is a difference between stuff that is good for you and bad for you. I could go down the list on music that is just fun to listen to or music that provokes thought. I also could name artist who are labeled “christian” who do nothing more then sing about 12 year old girls.

Usually on a Friday afternoon, I find myself laying on my bed reflecting over my life. I have a playlist on my iTunes library entitled “The Power of The Cross.” I made a list of songs that talk about, obviously, the power of the cross. I know I say this often, but I seriously don’t think I can express how much I appreciate the power of the cross and what took place that day.

God is so good. He really is.

So yeah, I just sit there on my bed and reminisce over the good, the bad, and definitely the ugly! Even as I write this, I can’t even describe the amount of peace I have in my spirit. You know that passage in Luke that talks about the woman who’s sins were many, but she was forgiven, so therefore she loved much? I definitely have a reason to love much.

By the grace of God, I’m really enjoying my life.

Luke 7:47 – - Therefore I tell you, her sins, which are many, are forgiven—for she loved much. But he who is forgiven little, loves little.”

Israel & New Breed’s newest album “A Deeper Level” comes out September 4th! I was just listening to a few tracks and I’m really looking forward to this album’s release. I could tell that they stepped out of their box, doing some new stuff with their style, which was cool. So yeah, I’m excited…I must’ve listened to their new song “Say So” about ten times already…haha…I love it!

Oh yeah, “Big” Mike Clemons is still a beast on the drums! How are New Breed’s musicians so stinkin good!?

Let the redeemed of the Lord say so…say so…say so!
