Landmines In The Pathway Of The Believer: Pride September 29, 2007

PRIDE
- God hates pride. Anything that God hates doesn’t belong in my life.
- God hates pride because it’s one of the characteristic traits of Satan himself. (Isaiah 14)
- Pride is at the heart of man’s sin
- Every other sin I will commit is an indication that I have a need of some sort, but Pride says I don’t need anything or anyone. I can do it all on my own.
- I will be defensive when I am prideful
- A prideful person often has this big emptiness in their life
- God knows just how much to give us in life in order to get us ready for the next level.
- If I want to become prideful, all I have to do is begin to listen to all of the good stuff people have to say about me
- When I begin to enjoy the praise, and love the acceptance of others, I am putting myself in danger of hurting my walk with Christ
- As long as we seek the Lord, He will prosper us
- When I push God out of my life, I allow pride into my life
- A prideful person will make mistakes throughout life
- I always need Godly counsel in my life
- The Holy Spirit will not move in a prideful persons life
- I have to be sensitive, careful, cautious, and watch where I walk
- The world doesn’t revolve around me, it revolves around Jesus
CONSEQUENCES OF PRIDE
- It will hinder my relationship with Christ
- It will hinder my relationship with others
- I block the blessings of God from my life
- It will hinder my effectiveness as a leader
- It breathes prayerlessness

I’ve started to go through a series by Pastor Charles Stanley entitled “Landmines In The Pathway Of The Believer.” Throughout this ten part series, Pastor Stanley talks about Pride, Jealousy, Insecurity, Sexual Sin, Compromise, Unforgiveness, Slothfulness, Discouragement, Covetousness, and Fear. As I go through this I’ll be posting my notes and thoughts on each topic…

Well, this week didn’t go any better than last week. David’s Mighty Men (Our Team Name) lost, which puts at 0-2 for the season. We put up a good fight, but our offense just wasn’t good enough for the defense we faced. Ahh well, we’ll go out next week and give it another shot…
Oh yeah, Matt and I would like to thank all of you who commented on our video post. We know it wasn’t the best footage but we did our best with what we had. We’re already working on the next few posts so stay tuned, because you never know who may appear in an episode…which reminds me…if you wanna appear as a special guest…let us know! The spots are filling up quick : )

Sports Update September 22, 2007

A few seasons are about to end and a few are just starting. This is what I think about each team I follow:
SEATTLE MARINERS: Their season was looking good but it didnt stay that way. I hate to say it, but once again their chances of moving on to the post-season are very, very, low! However, they did so much better than the last three years…
OAKLAND RAIDERS: Will they ever beat Denver!? I’m still not impressed with how their playing…
SAN JOSE SHARKS: They’re lookin good! With new uniforms and a few new players, this season is looking great…
FLORIDA GATORS: They seem to amaze me every week. They’re off to a 4-0 start and have’nt lost in “The Swamp” in 15 consecutive games! Tim Tebow is a straight beast of a quarterback, Percy Harvin is simply amazing, and the whole team is playing great. I smell another BCS Championship right around the corner…
Okay, thats it : )

The season has officialy started. With eight teams in the league, it’s gonna get pretty intense by the end of the semester. Unfortunately, my team lost. During the first game I was eliminated by Shi Shi Da Bible Beast, and I have no idea who got me out the second game. So yeah, we got off to slow start. I think I’ll go cry myself to sleep now ; )

“It is impossible for us to call ourselves worshippers; get that close to God’s heart, without being moved to take action against extreme poverty and injustice in the world…because that is the heart of God.”
Praying For Our Nation September 11, 2007

In remembrance of September 11th a few of us got together for a short time of worship and prayer. We prayed for our nations leaders, the soldiers defending our country, those that have died defending our country and their family’s, and as crazy as it sounds; the salvation of Al Qaeda, the Muslim nation, and Osama Bin Laden. I can’t explain what the atmosphere of my room was like, but I know this for sure; I was deeply touched. As I was reflecting over the events that took place that morning, along with everything that’s happened up to this point, I started to choke up as I help back the tears. We take a lot for granted, you know that?
This was the first time I’ve seriously come before the Lord and prayed for my nation. With different political beliefs being represented in my room, I assumed some sort of debate would break out. It didn’t happen. Instead, six guys got together, laid down their political views, worshipped together, and genuinely prayed for our nation and it’s leaders. It was very touching, I will always remember this night…
God Bless America…

An Apology September 7, 2007

I think it’s safe to say that most of us use our blog as a way to express ourselves. Well, I’ve used my liberty to express myself in a very immature way. Because of this, I want to apologize. I had very wrong motives sitting in the deepest part of my soul as I wrote some of my previous posts, being frustrated about a lot of things going on around me. Instead of handling my frustration in a way that would be uplifting to my brothers in Christ, I wrote things I shouldn’t have. Not only was this very immature, it was very unbiblical. This is the reason for this post…
From the bottom of my heart I apologize. If you were in any way offended, or in any way lost my respect, I sincerely want to ask for your forgiveness. As a fellow blogger once wrote, my love for you should be greater than my liberty to express myself. This will be my last post for a while. I’m going to take some time to get things right. Once everything is taken care of, expect to see some new posts. One thing I was oblivious to was the influence I have on my readers. In July alone, this site had over 2,000 hits. The last thing I want is to lose that influence and plant a negative seed about the Body of Christ into your spirit. This is a very humbling experience and I learned my lesson. I’m sorry…
Oh yeah, be careful what you post on the world wide web. You never know who’s gonna come across it : )
Respectfully,
Joseph Garibay
