What’s Up from St. Louis, Missouri! May 23, 2007

Wow! I can’t believe how far I’ve traveled with my friends in the last two days. It’s been awesome having the chance to see so many different cities. We will be in Michigan tomorrow. The plan is to wake up, check out St. Louis a bit, drive over to Chicago and spend some time there, and then be in Grand Rapids by the end of the day. We weren’t supposed to drive this far today, but due to all of the full hotels, we kept driving!
Here are some of the highlights from the last two days:
- We saw the Mormon Temple in Salt Lake City, Utah
- We drove through the Rockies, but I was asleep!
- We hung out in Denver…which is one of the dirtiest cities I have ever been in
- We were offered a crack rock by a bum at a park in Denver
- I have seen all of the sports stadiums in each city…which is really cool!
- Matt almost wrecked his car in Kansas City…He almost hit a bus! : )
- Luis lit off two fireworks in the middle of nowhere…it was sweet!
- I saw buffalo for the first time!
- I saw fireflies for the first time!
- We spent some time at IHOP “International House of Prayer”
- We walked inside of a casino. Only for a few minutes and the lights were the only cool thing!
- We made it through Kansas with absolutely NO tornadoes…bummer!
So yeah…it’s been quite the adventure. It’s 2:15 a.m.right now and Sam is the only one asleep, my body hasn’t adjusted to the time zone. He’s snoring really loud and he’s making this really weird whistling sound! Apparently he has a cold so he needs his rest, Anti Sam loves colds! (Inside Joke) : )
Were heading off to Chicago around 9 a.m. I’ll post another update as soon as I can…Goodnight!

Wow! I can’t believe how long of a drive we made today! So here we are, in Salt Lake City, Utah. From what we’ve seen, it’s a pretty cool city. Because we are leaving at 5 a.m. tommorrow, were going to bed early but we are planning to see more of the city in the mornng.
Here are some of the highlights of our trip so far:
- Sam and Matt were almost attacked by Sarah’s dog
- We ran into a small snowstorm in Eastern Oregon
- We had breakfast at McDonalds
- We stopped in Meridian, Idaho for lunch. Thanks Sarah and her family! : )
- Were staying in a guest home, which is actually pretty cool! Different, but cool
- Becuase of the time change, we are ahead in time by one hour
- Matt and I are sleeping in the same room, I have the bottom bunk! : )
Tommorrow night we will be in the middle of Kansas, I’m not sure if we will have internet connection but the next time we do, I will post another update!
See Ya

People Matter: Part 1 May 13, 2007

For some reason the Lord seems to speak to me by allowing me to have different encounters with
homeless people. Why does He do that? I don’t know, but He does and I’m sure one day I will know why. Recently I went to a local Mexican restaurant. Being the introvert that I am, I went alone. When I walked into the restaurant there was one man in particular that caught my attention. He was what appeared to be a homeless man. As I waited in line to order my food I couldn’t stop the urge to look at him. I’ve come across many homeless people before, but none of them were as impacting as the man I was looking at. He sat off in the corner of the restaurant minding his own business, but at the same time observing everyone around him. He wore a black helmet on his head, had a light jacket on with a t-shirt underneath, blue pants that were ripped, and was barefoot with multiple gashes and calluses that were hard as a rock. I sat down and continued to keep my eye on him.
He always seems to place us in situations that force us to get out of our comfort zone.
As I watched him, my heart went out to him instantly. As he continued to watch everyone in the restaurant, the look on his face expressed a deep desire to have someone to talk to. It was such a dull look, a very empty expression. I couldn’t help but think to myself, (more…)
The Last Time May 7, 2007

If I ‘d known what was going to happen that day, I probably would have planned it out differently. It was like any other, we had just started spring break and I was packing for a trip to North Carolina.
The phone rang and by the tone of my brother’s voice, I could tell something was wrong. When he hung up I walked over to him and asked who had called and what had happened. He said that it was Mikey; he was a very close friend to the family. My brother then went on to explain that Mikey was calling to let us know that they had to rush Steven to the hospital. Steven was his older brother and a very close friend of mine. I asked what had happened and all my brother told me was that Steven had gotten really sick and they thought he had cancer. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing! I grabbed my keys and took off to the hospital as fast as I could. (more…)

So I guess downtown Portland is putting on a big celebration for Cinco De Mayo so I’m going to head down there and check it out. How bad could it be? Nice weather, good memories with friends, crazy hispanic people, good food, and rides! Sounds good to me! So yeah, I’m just waiting for my friend to come pick me up and then were off. In the words of Arnold…Hasta La Vista
