Crazy! April 29, 2007

I know I already posted a entry this morning but I thought this deserved to be put on here. This took place earlier today:
A gasoline tanker truck crashed and exploded in a ball of flames early today, causing a 250-foot stretch of a major Bay Area freeway interchange to melt and collapse on a roadway below, authorities said.
Officials said the damage to the freeway maze east of the Bay Bridge, which carries 270,000 vehicles to and from San Francisco each day, is being assessed by engineers, but repairs are expected to disrupt traffic this week and probably longer.
Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger issued an emergency declaration this afternoon to help expedite freeway repairs by streamlining contracting procedures and provding emergency funding for repairs. “Undoubtedly,” he said, “today’s incident will cause severe difficulties for Bay Area commuters.”
After the truck carrying 8,600 gallons of gasoline overturned, the fuel ignited and witnesses reported seeing flames shoot more than 250 feet in the air, the California Highway Patrol said.
The driver escaped with moderate burns, and there were no other reported injuries in the accident, which occurred in light traffic at about 3:45 a.m., a CHP spokeswoman said. The CHP said the initial investigation revealed that unsafe speed was a factor in the accident.
The accident occurred within several miles of two of the Bay Area’s most well-known disasters. During the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, a portion of the Bay Bridge buckled and collapsed, killing a motorist. And in 1982, seven people were killed in the Caldecott Tunnel after a stalled car, a bus and a gasoline tanker were involved in a fiery crash.
Sunday’s crash and freeway collapse “had elements of both of those accidents,” said California Department of Transportation spokesman Bob Haus.
The CHP said the truck crashed on the interchange from westbound Interstate 80 to southbound Interstate 880, which carries traffic from Berkeley and Vallejo south toward San Jose. The CHP said intense flames and heat from the fire caused the overhead connector from eastbound Interstate 80 to eastbound 580, which carries traffic from San Francisco into East Bay, to fall onto the interchange.
Officials encouraged motorists to carpool, find alternative routes around the closure and take public transportation. The Bay Area Rapid Transit District announced that it would be running longer trains Monday and increase its capacity by 50% to help relieve increased traffic congestion.

A couple of days ago a few friends including myself decided to attempt the almost impossible feat of drinking a gallon of milk in one hour, also known as the Gallon Challenge. I had never done it before but as always, I never back down from a challenge. I posted some of the photos on my Myspace profile so feel free to check them out. It was intense and there will be a rematch next week! : )
Faithful and True April 14, 2007

Faithful - - Loyal, constant, and steadfast
True - - In accordance with fact or reality
There are many names for God. One of them that has significant meaning to me is Faithful and True. I was recently reading through a devotional book and the author wrote: Jesus is called Faithful and True. These names were not given to Him until the end of the book of Revelation. When John saw the second coming of Jesus in power, he called Him Faithful and True. This compound name reflects his character. He is faithful to do all He promised, and Jesus promised, “I will come again” (John 14:3). Jesus is true and consistent to all that is established in the universe. Jesus’ second coming is the appropriate climax to all He did since creation. Jesus will be Faithful and True throughout the great tribulation in Revelation, so He’ll be Faithful and True in your hour of trial. Right to the end, He’ll be the same, regardless of circumstances, regardless of pressures, regardless of others’ disappointments; Jesus will prove himself to be Faithful and True.
As I read what Elmer L. Towns wrote, I had to stop and reflect over the last few years… (more…)

Friends are such a blessing aren’t they? As hard as they are to find, when you do find them, you learn to appreciate them for who they are and what they do in your life. A simple conversation with one of them doesnt just go into one ear and out the other, but it sits in your heart and you reflect over their wisdom. A simple ride to work isnt just a time to waste gas but a time to talk and laugh, as short of a time as that may be. Even arguments turn into something good. It’s amazing to think that hundreds and hundreds of years ago the Lord knew that we would need relationships to get through life. Of course we don’t have to have any friends, but I just can’t imagine my life without the people who are currently by my side.
